Designing for autonomy: furniture that fosters well-being

In care environments, well-being goes beyond rest. It also involves the ability to maintain autonomy, to participate, and to carry out daily activities safely and confidently.

At Seniorcare, we believe that designing for well-being means designing for autonomy, because independence strengthens self-esteem and enhances the quality of life for older adults.

Design that facilitates, not limits

Thoughtful design features enhance the user experience.

A forward-positioned armrest that facilitates standing up, an integrated handle that allows the chair to be moved effortlessly, or rounded edges that provide tactile safety—these design features promote mobility and autonomy without compromising comfort.

The Wave collection, designed by Odosdesign for Seniorcare, was created with precisely this purpose: to support the body’s movements when sitting or standing, making daily life easier while offering ergonomics, lightness, and a friendly aesthetic.

Flow, Ergonomics, and Comfort

Wave is inspired by the naturalness of everyday gestures. Its soft lines and enveloping structure allow for an intuitive interaction with the chair: the person sits, stands, and moves it effortlessly and comfortably.

The fluid design translates into confidence and well-being, creating environments where every gesture feels safe and natural.

Designing to live better

Promoting autonomy impacts not only the physical but also the emotional dimension.
Being able to stand up easily or move a chair reinforces a sense of control and dignity.

That is why Wave is not just a collection of chairs and tables: it is a way of approaching care design with empathy and freedom of movement.

At Seniorcare, we continue to invest in furniture that nurtures well-being through design, supporting people’s natural rhythms and creating warmer, more accessible, and human-centered spaces.
