Young designers imagine the future of care: new ideas to improve the quality of life for older adults.

At Seniorcare, we continue to champion design as a powerful tool for social transformation. That’s why, once again, we’ve partnered with students from the Master’s Degree in Product Design at CEU Cardenal Herrera University, on a project that connects young creativity with the real needs of older adults.

Guided by Ana Segovia from Odosdesign and drawing on our experience as specialized furniture manufacturers for care environments, the students developed proposals that respond with sensitivity and commitment to the challenges of aging.

The result: four projects that show how design can support, protect, and connect people at every stage of life.

Sasae: a chair that supports you throughout life

Sasae—which means ‘support’ in Japanese—is more than just a chair. It’s an adaptive concept designed to evolve alongside the different stages of life, offering safety and independence as mobility becomes more limited.

Its timeless design allows it to blend seamlessly into various spaces, without stigmatizing or appearing as an assistive product. It combines dignity, beauty, and functionality in equal measure, resulting in a piece crafted to grow with its user.

YAIA: inclusive design that promotes autonomy.

YAIA is a chair designed to promote active, healthy, and social ageing. It was inspired by the observation that furniture plays a key role in supporting autonomy and well-being in later life.

Its lightweight, functional design allows for sitting from various positions and enables users to stand up safely and naturally, thanks to accessible support points. Its 360º open structure encourages freedom of movement, social interaction, and shared use of space.

It also features a designated spot for hanging a bag, walking stick, or crutch—adding comfort and accessibility without compromising aesthetics.

Integrated handrails: safety with design at home.

This project proposes a system of handrails specifically designed for homes and senior living spaces, incorporating functional accessories such as pocket trays and bathroom supports.

Beyond their support function, these handrails become aesthetic, practical elements that blend seamlessly with furniture, adding a discreet layer of safety without sacrificing the warmth of the home environment.

An idea that responds directly to a real need—with both sensitivity and practicality.

ComuniPark: connecting generations.

ComuniPark proposes an urban ecosystem that fosters social interaction and knowledge exchange between generations. It envisions a network of city spaces where cultural, social, or recreational activities—such as workshops or intergenerational gatherings—can take place, helping to stimulate the mind and reduce loneliness.

The concept creates an accessible, inclusive environment adapted for people with reduced mobility, transforming the city into a place where older adults remain active members of the community.

Inspiration, commitment, and purposeful design.

At Seniorcare, we believe design should serve people. Collaborating with young designers not only allows us to share our expertise but also opens the door to fresh, bold, and socially engaged perspectives.
